Ed, this oil spilled still going on, it is unbelievable. These
companies have done this to make the president Obama's looks bad and want him to "FAIL". WHERE CHENEY'S TOUCHES, DESEASTER OCCURES. SPECIALLY
AGAINST PRESIDENT OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRTATS.
Do not for a moment thing this was an accident. Why,
the oil still pouring out and they can stop it? A Demo.

This oil spill needs to be stopped now. Otherwise, we could see 3-4 states plus more get effected should a huricane like katrina come back again. We will be seeing this season in a few short months. Imagine that oil hitting farm land and other key critical areas of agriculture that feed this country. The cost of bickering on who did what is the loss of much more. We can't afford it. We need boots on the ground now on this to stop the spill and clean it up. We can get the justice later. Our way of life seems to be hanging in the ballance.

BP has changed spokespersons. The new guy, not the CEO, sounds much better. It gives us some hope. He says that BP will pay for it all and that it wants, more than anyone, to stop this from happening again.
There are limits to capitalism. An example is shown in this latest spill. But there are limits to what government can do, as well. For example, it is clear that the federal government cannot fix this leak.
BP should end up paying through the nose for the spill and all its damages. The federal government needs to clean house in the agency that oversees the rigs.

Ed,
I love the issues you raise, the way your raise them and the way you get me to think critically about current events.

When companies want to put a favorable spin on bad events, they change to spokespeople that sound and look much better before the public, those who use words that seem to give hope, whether those words are true or not. Often, the original spokespeople are the ones that told the truth. As a media consultant, I know the game very well. Most companies say "Safety is our number one concern" AFTER the accident. Why wasn't safety their number one concern BEFORE the accident? That's because it wasn't; making money was as we have seen in both the Gulf and in West Virginia. In the same train of thought, BP now says that preventing future oil spills will be something they will do; why wasn't it their number one priority before the spill? BP will delay until public interest in this topic dies down, then begin to shirk on "pay(ing) for it all", finding reasons to not pay claims. How many of us remember the details of the Exxon Valdez in Alaska? I think very few of us do and even fewer know the extent to which the company paid claims for the horrific damage done. BP will continue to suck oil from the earth and let someone else worry about this kind of damage reoccurring. Sometimes it seems that much like healthcare, providing energy should be a government responsibility; it seems like a better alternative for the American people, everything considered. Then, the government would be able to fix the leak and acquire energy resources safely. Rather than cleaning house in the agency that oversees the rigs, the federal government needs to beef up that agency to ensure that regulations are strictly adhered to.
