The OpEd: Why isn't Breitbart remorseful?

Posted on Thursday, July 22, 2010

Give me your thoughts...

comments Comments:

Yea, why isn't he?
And why isn't Congressman Charlie Rangel remorseful for his violating a range of Congressional ethics rules and supporting a lady who said the white police had raped her when it turned out later it was all a lie?
What is going on with our party, we are control Congress and we are bringing Charlie up on charges, that's unheard of, you never do that to you own. Especially in an election year

Why isn't Breitbart remorseful? The only way Breibart will be remorseful is with his a big loss in his pocket book. This Conservative loser needs to be sued for defamation of character. I hope Shirley Sherrod files a lawsuit (maybe this will be the only way to stop this despicable crap by FAUX & Breibart). He intentionally did what he did with no remorse with the intention to take down Sherrod. He deserves to take it where it will hurt him the most by writing a big check to Sherrod. Fox News should also be sued for defamation of character too. I can guarantee that FOX & Breitbart were on this together from the beginning. They need to be responsible for their freedom of speech & actions. Put the under oath & fine out it they cooked this up from the beginning. Make them testify under oath. Does Heidi Harris have an independent thought or do any of your conservative guests have an independent thought?
They are like Right Wing Androids who are afraid to drift away from the scripted conservative talking points. I challenge them to speak with independent thoughts on the issues.
Thank You Ed for not letting your conservative guest get by with reading an off topic statement to defer away from the topic & dodge the question you asked. I would like to see more of that Big Eddie.
Please file a lawsuit Shirley Sherrod to make an example out of this garbage & to stop it from happening over & over again. The pattern needs to stop!
Would the real Kent Conrad please stand Up! What is this garbage about extending the Bush Tax Cuts that only get extended for less than 2% of the country. What happened to standing up for North Dakotas best interests & the best interests of the country Conrad? Don't become a Ben Nelson!

Posted by M, Fargo

Yea and CNN needs to be sued to cause they broke the story before FOX did, right?

Posted by tim

Forgot to add, the guy who fired needs to be sued too, for doing so without first hearing her side of the story.
And we need to raise taxes now, cause the Govt must spend us out of this problem.

Posted by tim

Tim are you an average working Man? You have implied that before that you work for a living.
Why are you on the side that does not support the average working man? Why are you standing up for the country club snob crowd who look down on you as if you are pond scum? I don't get it?
The Republican Party does not represent you Tim. The Democratic Party is the Party of the worker & small business. The Democratic platform is fighting for you. Why don't you get that? My take on you based on what you type is that you just can't get over the false conservative ideology of Democrats just want handouts & are on welfare & that type of garbage. You got that completely wrong. It will take time, but I will straighten you out & deprogram all that conservative garbage that has ported into your brain from living in the South. You said that is where you are from once or twice. My advice is just keep listening & watching Big Eddie on the radio & TV, he will help counsel you through it Tim. Eventually you will get it. There is hope for you yet Tim.

The Sherrod story is the best thing that could of happened to Barry, it will serve as a wonderful diversionary story from Rep Rengal, BP, Geithner opposing Elizabeth Warren, the lousy Financial Reform Bill, the terrible housing numbers, the lack of relief for the 99's, the unemployment numbers, the 350,000 FORECLOSED HOME last month - and yes the WARS costing how much annually?

Sherrod is NOT the story, FAUX and BREITBART are!
And don't think for a moment Barry's Golden Boy Vilsak is going to get the axe.... he needs him too much to get him his Iowa numbers!

GOOD JOB AGAIN RAHM!

I know, don't be so hard on Barry; he has only been in 18 months and had unbarable opposition from the Publicans. I'm sorry. I'll voice my Democratic opinion in a couple more years when he and his crew has totally run us over the cliff and we are all Corporate Droids.

Posted by Form-er-Dem

M - If these Democrats are the party for the "worker and small business", Jobs Bill be a 32Billion UE Bill, exportation STILL jobs overseas, elimination of valid union contracts, approving of GM building factories in China (with the 59Billion we loaned them....... Jesus M I'm sure glad they are on our side! :O

And what did Con rad (D) say about EXTENDING BUSH TAX CUTS TODAY! Come on M, your not that damn naive.

Breitbart is one of those miserable, vile, Politburo type guys who makes his living by coming up with new ways to smear and destroy people. The Obama Administration officials acted hastily. However, now those damn FOX news people have gotten the news cycle about something other than energy, Wall Street reform, foreign policy concerning North Korea or something substantive like education reform and job creation. The Obama administration needs to understand that FOX news is an agent of large corporate backed special interest groups that want to destroy him. Breitbart does not give a damn who he destroys because that is his business. The spirit of Joe McCarthy lives on today in Hannity, O'Riley, and Rush Limbaugh.

Our country is in very serious decline. Here is one small example of how misplaced our values have become in this country. In Fargo, ND, two corporate medical groups Merit Care and Sioux Falls based Sanford are merging. The cost in changing corporate hospital signs alone will be over three million dollars. Nearby, in Pelican Rapids, MN the local school district is going to a four day school week because the school district has to save $100,000 or about two teachers salaries. Many local referendums have been turned down because the town does not have the money. Think of the free publicity that Sanford group could get if they forgot about those corporate signs and sent the Pelican Rapids school district superintendent $100,000 to pay for two teachers so small elementary kids get a normal five day week. Small elementary children should not have to go to a long four day school week.

Our politics is FAILING THE COUNTRY AND OUR CHILDREN. We have plenty money for useless trillion dollar wars; trillion dollar plus tax cuts for the top two percent of households who do not need them; useless and over-budget, $100 million plus per plane, F-35 fighter plane programs that are nothing more than welfare for large corporations. We could build robot F-16 drones for much less money. The robot f-16 planes would do a better job against a modern missile environment too. Why not cancel the F-35 fighter plane and send the money to school superintendents across the country?

Where are the highly paid lobbyists for families, children, teachers, and public education? We just can not seem to help those Pelican Rapids, MN school kids get a measly $100 grand for two school teachers because the grownups who run this country are too selfish to remember what really is important and what is not.

M, I refuse to be categorized into any group, I find to do so is dehumanizing and something that takes away my liberty. It sets boundaries on me that were not the reason this nation was founded. My race, income, education, job, gender, age, union membership, class should make no difference to you any more than yours means to me.
We are both humans.
So in order to answer your questions as honestly and not in any way argumentatively, please think about these questions I have listed below.

First of all, I would like you to please define "average working Man".

Next, please explain what a country club snob does that makes them one? Is it the way they look, or does it mean they play golf or tennis.

I think I know pond scum, but in the real world, even it provides some benefit to the environment. It's just we humans who have degraded it in our minds to mean something worthless.

I can tell you what I believe has nothing to do with where I live. The term "South" is relative after all, to where someone else lives, right? If you think about it, your assumption about where I live and it's effects on what I believe are prejudice on you part and is I guess, a natural attempt to categorize someone, something that seems foreign. That's ok, I take no offense.

In order for my deprogramming to start I have just one other term I need you to define for me. Rich, what makes in your mind someone rich? Level of income, etc.
Looking forward to my first class,
I remain,
yours very truly,
tim

Posted by Eric W. Overholt Marin City CA 94965

Tim I agree with you, I don't like to be categorized into any group either. I won't even register with a political party & I am Independent. I am 100 percent with you on that. I am using the term average when it comes to social status. I would define average as basically someone who runs a small business or punches a time clock for a living. Someone living paycheck to paycheck trying to save for retirement. The middle class. I am referring to average when it comes to income (average income) for the area you live in. I would define a country club snob as those who look down on others social status. The type that need to be seen with a Rolex watch on their arm & luxury sedan. The type who would be embarrassed to be seen driving a Chevy Impala or a For Taurus. I am using the term to define attitude about their wealth & social status. Those who feel entitled & that they are better than you because of it. You can be wealthy & not be country club snob, it is all about attitude & entitlement. Rich can be many things from a conscious, kindness, etc & does not have to mean material things. I was referring to it in the terms of material wealth.
Tim you were the one who came on here & started going on the offense toward others posts & bashing others views. You are not doing as much of that in the way you were before. I will give you credit for that. There is nothing better than an exchange of ideas & beliefs while sticking to the absolutes & facts. You will never convince me that the Republican Party & some of the Democrats are not owned by large corporations. The Government needs to be controlled by the people & work in favor of the people. The Republican Party wants a corporate take-over & to shake down the Tax Payer.

Posted by M, Fargo

M,
The average guy works for rich people and big corporations, duh!
Democrats are anti-corporation and anti capitalism. "People make too much money", "We do better when we spread the wealth". This is a direct attack on all business big and small. Thanks Karl Marx

How can a political party attack the corporations that the "average guy" works for then say they are for the "average guy"? Duh again!! Fools!!

Ok, comrades unite and we will take down the rich and eat them. Then, take all their money and let the Feds spread it around us. Hey, look how good it has work all around the world. I'm ordering my tickets to Cuba today so I can get my shovel ready job from the government!!

M, guess what? Rich people give alot of their money away and spread the wealth better more efficiently than any R or D government could. *FACT*

Posted by Bigger Ed, Leaveland Ohio

B. Ed,
Not everyone works for large corporations. What is wrong with large corporations paying a fair wage? Nobody wants to take them down. Regulating corporations will not bring them down. Hell we bailed them out with our tax dollars. Your spread the wealth statement is a bunch of B.S. I am not implying the rich shouldn't be rich. Hell I am doing everything I can to make as much money as I can. I won't feel entitled to be in a lower tax bracket than the middle class when I get there. You act as if President Obama is Robin Hood & stealing from the rich. What a bunch of Garbage. Making corporations & the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes will not put them in the poor house.
What you don't get ignorant Ed is the fight with the Corporations is about power & not taking them down & eating them. It is about not having a Corporate controlled Government. It is about equal representation & getting the corporate corruption out of the Government. A powerful Military controlled by corporations that controls the Government & concentrated wealth at the top sounds a lot like old Nazi Germany to me.
Walmart provides jobs, but that does not mean a bunch of small grocery stores, hardware stores & etc.. providing the jobs.
To sum it up. The Progressive agenda is not to eat the rich or take down the corporations. Regulating the corporations will not take them down. It is about livable wages. It is about minimizing corporate political power vs representation of the middle class (balancing it out). You completely don't get it & are part of the problem.

Posted by M, Fargo

Confused Ed,
I forgot to mention it is the large corporations who are shipping our jobs over seas for cheap labor while enjoying the benefits & protections our tax dollars provide. They are protected by our Government (Federal & local) such as Military, police, fire, roads, bridges & etc. They even get bailed out or our Government loans them money. They are avoiding paying taxes at the same time.

M,

Since your mind is made up I see no reason to continue our conversation. And I always was lead to believe that liberal/progressives were open minded to new ideas, that it was the conservatives who were closed minded.
I do however, have to make a comment on how you defined 'rich". You are correct in knowing that you what define it as more of an attitude vs. dollars in the pocket. What does this news do for you?

Sen. John Kerry skips town on sails tax
By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa
Friday, July 23, 2010

Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

Isabel - Kerry's luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage - was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.

But instead of berthing the vessel in Nantucket, where the senator summers with the missus, Teresa Heinz, Isabel's hailing port is listed as "Newport" on her stern.

Could the reason be that the Ocean State repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven - like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau - for tax-skirting luxury yacht owners?

Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000."

Is this the type of rich your talking about? Remember he was the democrats guy for President not too long ago. And you think he has the "average working Joe" best interests at heart?
Please M, you are not stupid.
One other thing, in light of what you defined as objectionable attitude from the rich, I think you your self displayed the same thing you find displeasure in with your comments on people who live in or are from the South. Kind of judgmental if you ask me.

Posted by tim

Tim,
You are mistaken!!!!!!
It was the other John that was the "son of a mill worker" that is the average middle class values guy your thinking of. I understand that there are so many average middle class liberals sometimes I get confused too.
I think he was going to be Vice Pres. Such a shame he didn't have the chance to stop those other dirt bags. If only he could have made into office…..he would had a chance to bring those working class values to D.C.

Posted by Bigger Ed Leveland, Ohio

Tim,
I was referring to the media you receive in the south. The information available in the media is more than 90 percent conservative, especially over the air waves. I was referring to the disproportion that influence people's views. I was also implying that is why Liberals are stereotyped inaccurately. I believe the South votes against its own best interest as a result. Look at the electoral map.

As far as John Kerry & his yacht. Going by what you are implying that he is porting his boat there for tax reasons I would have to say that I can't defend him on that issue.

Just so you know, I am highly critical of many Democrats. I am an issues guy. I refer to the Democratic platform & the issues, not all Democrats as individuals. If someone has a D by there name & they do something I don't like I will call them on it. Pay attention to what I type & you will see what I mean.
As far as being open minded. I look at everything from every possible angle. I do this not with just politics, but with everything before I make a judgment or decision. If BP would have done that & the Government there would be no deep water drilling because a thorough fool proof plan would have to be there for the "what if?""whats the immediate plan?".

Posted by M, Fargo

M

Are you telling me that you believe the South doesn't have access to liberal/progressive media? ABC, CBS,NBC, CNN, MSNBC, New YORK TIMES, LA TIMES Washington Times, Public Broadcasting, all broadcast or can be bought into the south, aren't they liberal enough?

90 % conservative over the airways, isn't that just another way of saying liberalism is not a commercial success because their ideas can not compete for advertising dollars to stay on the air? Look at Air America. It's gone, if there were enough listeners who thought the ideas presented on their shows, then advertisers would have bought time and they would still by out there.
Cold hard facts, American is not the rotten, raciest place liberals like to think it is. White voters just elected a Black President, Cubans risk their lives to leave the workers paradise called Cuba to come here, Canadian's leaders when they have a serious operation come to the US for their operation.
Do we have issues, problems, sure we do! But so far I have yet to see a government increase in control solve the problem without creating more problems than what was before. Example, we have high unemployment and we depend on foreign oil so what does the Pres do,
he shuts down drilling in the Gulf putting how many Americans out of work? How many barrels of oil are we now doing without?
So why does he do that? Liberals need a coalition of differnet special interest groups to gain power because on their own they do not have the numbers. Think about that for a second, there's Labor, Abortion Rights, Green groups, Black, Hispanic groups to name a few, who the liberals have to court to get their support. And they get it by offering all of the groups just enough to get their vote with out offending one of the other groups.
Conservatism believes in the power of one and wants government to get out of the way to allow that one to go as far as their skills allow them to and not hold them back in favor of someone else or take from then that which they have earned to "level the playing field".
Got to go to work, best of the weekend to you M.
regards,
tim

Breitbart is remorseful because he and the people he stand with are BIGOTS AND HATERS!! They hate dems, liberals & Black people. Breitbart knows his fellow hate merchants will alway stand with him...and it seems that this believe has a strong-hold in the tea party....These same haters are from yesteryear and now they have rear their ugly heads again!

They fear the Pres., a Blackman. FEAR AND HATE MAKES A DANGEROUS TWOSOME!! Remember, they really didnt think obama a blackman would win the Presidency, but he did, and their quick answer was to put another blackman as their chairman until they could gain their stance on how to attack this black pres. Steele with his dumb-ass accepted this post not knowing he was being used, and now they have their attack legs against the Pres., and no longer need steele. So NO breitbart will never be remorseful & never change his mind-sit.... FEAR AND HATE HAS TOO STRONGER HOLD ON THE WHOLE DAMN LOT OF THEM.

Tim, The radio air-waves are mainly owned by conservatives who are willing to make less or lose money in some cases to push their agenda. It is an ownership issue. Ownership has its privileges. Advertising dollar alone is not what keeps the garbage on the air. I don't have all day to explain it to you "I am at work & will be going home soon & not near a PC most of the weekend". Go research it yourself. You will find that it isn't completely all about ratings & advertisement dollars. You really have to be more open minded & research a little deeper.
I will take your own argument. If it is about ratings & President Obama just won the election by a landslide. When the country is divided politically wouldn't it make more sense if the ratio was a Lillie more even? Are you telling me only conservatives listen to the radio? Or liberals only want to listen to Rush & Hanity? Come on that makes no sense. What makes sense is it is an ownership issue. Like Big Ed says: "Ownership has its privileges" The conservative guest on the Ed Show tonight Scott Hennen is across the street from me right now (I run into the guy often). He now owns his own stations, but before he was on WDAY AM. When Ed was on local radio here with KFGO AM, big Eddie kicked his but in the ratings. In fact when Conservative (I think it was) Clear Channel bought KFGO they let Ed go (fired him) & Put Rush on & conservative talk instead. Guess what happened Tim. The ratings went down the tube. The guy Ingstad who sold KFGO to clear channel, bought it back for pennies on the dollar & hired Ed back. The ratings went back through the roof. This is all in a red state. Ed will get the radio ratings, but conservative owners would rather make less money.

Posted by M, Fargo

Tim, I forgot to mention conservative owners will even give dead air interruptions when progressive radio is broadcasting or weak signals. This has an effect on ratings & It happens. The frequency or the part of the am dial where a radio station is at will also effect ratings. If a new program is at the top of the dial where the signal is more difficult to get it will also have an affect on the success of programing. If the good frequencies are taken, it is not easy to break into a market with new programming. There is a lot more to the story than you think. Looking at it from all angles & being open minded. There are times when it is about ratings, but not always.

We are living in the 21st century where education, knowledge based industries and modern infrastructure will create the wealth and good paying jobs for our economy. America is starting to lose its edge against our foreign competitors. The only way we are going to have a competitive high tech economy is to have a highly trained and highly educated work force. THERE IS NO WAY AROUND THE FACT THAT WE EITHER SUPPORT EDUCATION FUNDING IT ADEQUATELY OR ELSE WE ARE DOOMED TO DECLINE. We would do well to look at the wisdom of Canada, a country that adequately funds education and institutions of higher learning. It is not just funding either the Canadians go to school almost 11 months out of the year. We should start doing the same here in America.

Here is another indicator of the need for increased support for higher education and public schools in general. We need to abolish "no child left behind" and replace it with something better. The Washington Post had an article saying that the United States has fallen from first to 12th in the number of adults (aged 24-35) who had post secondary degrees. Canada is now the global leader in higher education. 55.8% of young Canadian adults who had at least an associate's degree. The US ranked 11th with only 40.4% of young adults who have at least an associate's degree or higher. President Obama has many programs and changes to make it easier for high school students to go to college and vocational technical school. But it may not be until 2025 until we catch up with our Canadian neighbors. There is no way we can maintain our standard of living unless we turn these educational trends around.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

We can not afford to keep the Bush tax cuts in place permanently estimated at about $3 trillion. Democrats are worried about the election. What members in both parties in Congress need to start doing is pulling together to start solving the REAL PROBLEMS facing our future. We have a backlog of infrastructure maintenance estimated at about $2.2 trillion. Our interstate highway system, ports, commuter transit like subways and commuter rail, airports, bridges, dams and levies, sewer and water mains all have huge needs for upgrading, maintenance, and replacement. Many of our school buildings need modernization or replacement. Remember that 35W bridge that fell into the Mississippi in Minneapolis? Many bridges in America would not pass a rigorous and honest inspection. How about all those levies and dams in California and New England that are 100 years old? Freight rail traffic around Chicago is bottle necked with huge delays and costs to all of us.

Here is my challenge to any conservatives out there. You explain how America will keep its standard of living, its strong military establishment, and our superpower status without first class infrastructure and highly educated young people in the high tech age. You explain to all of us how we will compete against China, Japan, Western European countries and other countries while we have declining numbers of American young adults with college degrees? You explain to all of us how we will have a 21st century high tech economy with broken down inferior and deteriorating infrastructure? You explain to all of us how we can compete in the 21st century against all other industrialized countries WHO HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE COVERAGE AT HALF THE PRICE OF OURS? You explain these things and then we can talk about keeping those tax cuts for the top two percent in American households.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

Golly, if we just raise the tax on the top 2% of American households we can have

"America will keep its standard of living, its strong military establishment, and our superpower status without first class infrastructure and highly educated young people in the high tech age."

"we will compete against China, Japan, Western European countries and other countries while we have declining numbers of American young adults with college degrees"

"we will have a 21st century high tech economy with broken down inferior and deteriorating infrastructure. we can compete in the 21st century against all other industrialized countries WHO HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE COVERAGE AT HALF THE PRICE OF OURS"

All of this by just raising the taxes on the top 2%?
Amazing!

Posted by tim

Where are the plans of conservatives to fund education, higher education, and rebuild our infrastructure? The only thing that matters in the 21st century is engineering and science research that leads to better technology. How can we compete with deteriorating infrastructure against growing industrial powers like China and India and or older but efficient ones in Western Europe? Oh that's right the conservatives do not give a damn about America or the future of our kids or grand kids because they do not care about America competing in the global economy in the 21st century.

Canada has the highest number of its young people who have at least an associates degree or higher at 55.8%. Canada produced 93,000 private sector jobs in June. Canada did not have to bailout its banks because their corporations are properly regulated. Canada also has superior universal health care at about half the GDP cost of 9% compared to America's 17% of GDP. Canadian citizens are well informed and highly educated. It would be hard to say the same about most American conservatives. The George Will's and William F. Buckley's get shouted out by Sarah Palin and Michelle Bauchman, both of whom are a national disgrace to America.

What is amazing is the ignorance of American conservatives who believe that we are living in the pre-1950's. We are not number one anymore. We have horrible economic and social problems that if not tended to will lead to even further decline. The only thing that is going to build wealth in the future is having a highly trained and highly educated work force. We must have huge numbers of fresh college graduates or they at least must have an associates. All of this will require substantial investments and increased taxation but this will be much cheaper than GOP trillion dollar wars for oil. Job growth in the future can not be accomplished without taxation and substantial investment in education and infrastructure.

The French have a TGV train system that travels faster than a commuter jet. The infrastructure in most Western European countries is in a high state of repair and is technologically ahead of America. You can go on a train or bus in Europe and go anywhere you want to go without driving. Where are America's bullet trains? Where is our state of the art infrastructure so we can compete and keep good paying jobs here in America? That's right we are urinating all of our money away in useless wars so oil companies can make profits on vehicles with antiquated internal combustion engines. Israel and Denmark have electric vehicles, solar technology and lots of wind farms. We are at least 10 years or more behind them. If we listen to conservatives we will be many decades more behind the Europeans, Japanese, Chinese in infrastructure and green technology.

Posted by Rex, Moorhead

And we will have all the money needed to do those things you've listed just by raising the taxes on the top 2%?

Posted by tim

Where is your solution to fix the $2.2 trillion infrastructure backlog for our country's future economic growth? Our infrastructure is deteriorating fixing it is absolutely imperative for our future economic growth. To not fix our infrastructure means we surrender our standard of living to China, Europe and other countries. We have huge budget deficits because of wars and tax breaks during the Bush years. The national debt is at $13 trillion with a deficit of $1.4 trillion just for this fiscal year.

Anyone who thinks we can afford the Bush tax cuts over ten years could cost the treasury up to an estimated $3 trillion in revenue over tens years is living in a parallel universe. WE CANNOT AFFORD THE BUSH TAX CUTS. Those Republicans who started the Afghanistan and Iraq wars CAN START SACRIFICING AND PAYING FOR THEIR WARS THEY STARTED. Iraq alone added $3 trillion to our long term debt. Corporate socialism is where the Republicans and the right wing are. The GOP does not care about working class Americans only corporate campaign donors and corporate power.
